Dumpster Rental Prices in Asheville, NC

Most Asheville homeowners pay between $245 and $800 to rent a roll-off dumpster for a week. A 10-yard runs about $245 to $400, a 20-yard about $395 to $575 and a 30-yard about $495 to $800+. The size sets the starting price. The weight of what you throw in decides the final bill.

We get the same call every week. Someone in West Asheville or Kenilworth has three quotes in hand, all different, and can’t tell what’s actually included in any of them. This page lays out what dumpster rental in Asheville really costs, what should be baked into the price, and the few things that can push it higher, so you can compare quotes on equal terms.

What should be included in a dumpster rental price?

An honest Asheville quote covers five things. If any of these is missing, it’s coming later on the invoice.

  • Delivery to your driveway or jobsite
  • 7 days on site, counted from drop-off
  • Pickup whenever you call
  • Disposal at the landfill, up to the included weight
  • Driveway boards under the rails, so the steel doesn’t gouge your concrete or asphalt

Our quotes include all five in one number. No fuel surcharge, no “environmental fee,” and no delivery charge that shows up after the truck leaves.

What can make my dumpster cost more?

Four things, and every one of them should be spelled out before you book.

Going over the weight limit

Every load crosses the scale at the Buncombe County Landfill on Panther Branch Road in Alexander. If it weighs more than your included tons, you pay per ton over. Around Asheville that runs about $75 to $100 a ton. Ask for the scale ticket; a straight hauler will send it without being asked twice.

Keeping it past 7 days

Extra days are billed at a flat daily rate. Published local rates run about $15 to $25 a day. If your remodel runs long, call or text before day 7 and add the days you need.

Mattresses, tires and a few other items

The landfill charges separately for mattresses and tires, so haulers pass that on as a per-item fee. Refrigerators and AC units still holding refrigerant, liquid paint, fuels, batteries and TVs or computers can’t go in at all. North Carolina bans electronics from landfills.

A blocked drop

If the truck shows up and the spot is blocked by a car, a low limb or a locked gate, some companies charge a trip fee. We call before it gets to that, which is one reason we ask for a photo of the spot when you book.

Why does weight matter so much here?

Because Asheville jobs tend to be heavy. A dumpster can look half full and already be at its limit.

  • Roofs. Asphalt shingles weigh roughly 250 to 400 pounds per square. A 20-square roof comes off at about 2.5 to 4 tons, more than a 10-yard’s usual 2-ton allowance. Plan for a ton or two of overage, or ask for a higher allowance up front.
  • Rain. Summer afternoon storms roll over the mountains most days in July and August. An uncovered load of drywall, carpet or insulation soaks up water and gets billed at wet weight. A cheap tarp over the box pays for itself.
  • Rock and clay. Anything dug out of a hillside lot comes with red clay and stone. Keep it out of a mixed load.
  • Concrete, brick and block. These fill a box by weight long before volume. A clean load, with nothing else mixed in, can be recycled at the county landfill instead of buried. The county transfer station on Hominy Creek Road doesn’t take concrete, so it all goes to Alexander.

Is the cheapest dumpster quote really the cheapest?

Often it isn’t. The most common complaint we hear about dumpster rental in Asheville is a low base price followed by an invoice with delivery, fuel and disposal lines nobody mentioned. Some providers add $100 or more for delivery and $15 to $50 in fuel on top of the advertised rate.

Before you book with anyone, ask these five questions:

  1. What’s the total price, including delivery, pickup and disposal?
  2. How many tons are included, and what’s the charge per ton over?
  3. How many days are included, and what does an extra day cost?
  4. Are there fuel, environmental or trip fees?
  5. Will you send me the landfill scale ticket?

If a company can’t answer all five in one call, keep shopping. And skip any “dumpster” ad on Facebook Marketplace that only takes Cash App, Venmo or Zelle.

How can I keep my dumpster rental cost down?

  1. Pick the right size the first time. A second haul costs more than going one size up.
  2. Separate heavy debris. Put concrete, brick and dirt in a 10-yard, filled partway, and keep it clean.
  3. Cover the box when afternoon storms are coming.
  4. Load flat. Nothing above the top edge; we can’t legally haul an overfilled box.
  5. Keep it on your driveway. A spot on private property needs no permit. A spot on a city street needs a City of Asheville Right-of-Way Encroachment Permit, which adds time.
  6. Book early in spring and early summer. Remodel and roofing season fills the schedule fast.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 10-yard dumpster cost in Asheville?

Typical Asheville rates run about $245 to $400 for 7 days with about 2 tons included. See our 10-yard dumpster page for what fits.

Is delivery included in the dumpster price?

It should be. Our quotes include delivery, pickup, 7 days and disposal up to the weight limit. If a quote lists delivery separately, add it in before you compare.

How much is the overweight fee in Asheville?

Usually about $75 to $100 per ton over the included weight, based on the landfill scale ticket.

Do I pay more for a dumpster on a steep driveway?

No. We ask for a photo of the drive so the driver can plan the drop. If the truck can’t reach it safely, we help you find another spot instead of charging extra.

Do I need to pay for a permit?

Not if the dumpster sits on your driveway or yard. A spot on a city street needs a City of Asheville Right-of-Way Encroachment Permit before delivery.

Can I extend my rental if the job runs long?

Yes. Call or text before day 7 and we add days at a flat daily rate.
