Why Asheville Picks Dumpster Rental Asheville
We are not a national broker that farms your order out to whoever is free. The price we quote is the price on your invoice, unless you go over the weight or keep the box longer.
We work on mountain driveways every week. We know the clay, the switchbacks, and which Montford streets won’t take a full-size truck.
That local knowledge is the difference between a clean drop and a gouged driveway.
Dumpster Rentals for Every Asheville Project
From a roof tear-off in West Asheville to a Helene gut-out in Swannanoa, we bring the right roll-off dumpster for residential, construction, roofing and commercial jobs to your home or jobsite and haul it away when you are done.
What We Handle
Dumpster Sizes We Offer
How Much Does Dumpster Rental Cost in Asheville?
Most Asheville homeowners pay a few hundred dollars for a 7-day rental, depending on size and weight. See the full Asheville price breakdown. Here is what each size costs locally and what it holds.
| Size | Holds about | Typical Asheville price* | Weight usually included | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10-yard | 3 pickup loads | $245 to $400 | 2 tons | Roof tear-off, garage or single-room cleanout |
| 15-yard | 4 to 5 pickup loads | $295 to $340 | 3 tons | Kitchen remodel, flood gut-out of one floor |
| 20-yard | 6 pickup loads | $395 to $575 | 4 tons | Whole-house cleanout, large remodel |
| 30-yard | 9 pickup loads | $495 to $800+ | 6 tons | New construction, estate cleanouts, big demo |
*Typical Asheville price ranges. Call for our exact all-in price for your address and debris.
Every quote includes: delivery, pickup, disposal fees up to the weight limit, 7 days on site, and driveway boards.
What can add to your bill, stated up front:
- Going over the weight limit: billed per ton off the landfill scale ticket. In Asheville that usually runs $75 to $100 a ton, and we will send you the ticket if you ask.
- Extra days: a flat daily rate after day 7.
- Mattresses and tires: a per-item fee, because the landfill charges us separately for these.
- Trip fee: only if the truck can’t drop because the spot is blocked. We will call before it gets to that.
No fuel surcharge. No “environmental fee.” No delivery charge added after the fact.
Why this matters: The most common complaint about Asheville dumpster companies is a low quoted price followed by an invoice with delivery, fuel and disposal fees nobody mentioned. We would rather lose a job on price than win it with a number that isn’t real.
What size dumpster do you need?
For most Asheville home projects, a 15-yard is the right call. It handles a kitchen remodel or a one-floor gut-out without taking over your whole driveway. Ordering too small is the most expensive mistake people make, because a second haul costs more than going one size up. A rough rule: each 10 yards holds about three pickup-truck loads.
10-yard dumpster
- Best for: a roof tear-off on a small house, a garage cleanout, one bathroom demo.
- Asheville note: Shingles are heavy. Asphalt shingles run roughly 250 to 400 pounds per square, so a roof hits the weight limit long before the box looks full. Tell us how many squares and we will size it by weight, not volume.
15-yard dumpster
- Best for: a kitchen remodel, flooring tear-out across a few rooms, a basement gut-out after water damage.
- Asheville note: It fits most in-town driveways in West Asheville and North Asheville, where lots are narrow and parking is tight.
20-yard dumpster
- Best for: a whole-house cleanout, a large remodel, deck removal.
- Asheville note: A common pick for pre-sale cleanouts, when a house has to be empty before listing.
30-yard dumpster
- Best for: new construction, additions, whole-house demo, estate cleanouts.
- Asheville note: It needs a long, fairly level spot. On a steep lot, two smaller swaps are often safer than one 30.
Heavy debris: concrete, brick, dirt and stone
Broken concrete, brick, block, tile, dirt, gravel, asphalt and the rock that comes out of every Asheville foundation dig fill a dumpster by weight, not volume. For these we send a 10-yard, filled only partway, and keep the load clean. A clean load of concrete, brick and block gets recycled at the county landfill instead of buried. Mixed with trash, it gets charged as trash.
Still not sure? Text a photo of the pile to (828) 392-3810 and we will tell you the size in a few minutes.
Our Process: Renting a Dumpster in Asheville, Step by Step
1. Call, Text or Request a Quote
Tell us what you’re clearing out and send a photo of where the box should go. A driveway photo tells us more about grade, trees and clearance than any form.
2. Get Your Size and All-In Price
We match the size to the weight, not just the volume, and give you one price with the tons and days included before you book.
3. We Drop It Off
Boards go down first to protect your driveway. The driver sets the box where you marked it, with the door facing the way you’ll load. Call before noon and it’s usually there that afternoon.
4. Fill It, Then We Haul It Away
You get 7 days. Keep it level with the top edge, call for pickup, and we take it to the Buncombe County Landfill. If you go over the weight, the scale ticket comes with the invoice.
Typical Asheville Dumpster Jobs, Planned Out
Three jobs we see all the time around Asheville, with the size, weight and local details that decide how they go.

Roof tear-off in West Asheville (28806)
- Job: one-layer asphalt roof, about 20 squares, on a bungalow with a single-car drive
- Box: 10-yard, placed at the top of the drive
- Weight plan: 20 squares runs about 2.5 to 4 tons, so the quote includes the per-ton rate up front
- Watch for: low service lines and parked cars on narrow side streets off Haywood Road
- Time on site: 2 to 3 days

Helene basement gut-out in Swannanoa (28778)
- Job: flooded finished basement: wet drywall, insulation, carpet, pad and furniture
- Box: 15-yard, kept below the weight limit instead of a bigger box
- Before loading: photos for insurance and an asbestos check on older materials
- Watch for: river mud and silt, which add weight fast
- Time on site: about 5 days

Pre-sale cleanout in Kenilworth (28803)
- Job: whole-house cleanout before listing: furniture, boxes, garage and attic
- Box: 20-yard on a paved drive
- Set aside: TVs and computers (North Carolina bans them from landfills), paint and appliances with refrigerant
- Watch for: old oaks over the drive; the truck needs about 23 feet overhead
- Time on site: the full 7 days
These are planning examples built from the jobs we size most often around Asheville, not specific customer projects. Your size, weight and timing depend on your debris and your drive.

Renting a Dumpster in the Mountains: What’s Different in Asheville
A national company treats your job like a flat lot in the suburbs. Asheville isn’t that, and these things decide whether your rental goes smoothly.
Steep and curving driveways
Much of North Asheville, Town Mountain, Beaverdam and Woodfin is built on grades a standard roll-off truck doesn’t love. Before we book, we ask you for a photo or the grade. If the truck can’t safely back up your drive, we will tell you straight and find a flat spot that works, not leave it teetering on the slope.
Red clay and soft ground
Asheville clay turns soft after a few days of rain. A loaded dumpster sitting on wet ground or grass can sink and rut. We place it on pavement or gravel whenever possible, and set boards under the rails every time.
Low limbs, power lines and narrow streets
The truck tilts its bed to slide the container off, so it needs overhead room. Old oaks over Montford and Kenilworth driveways and low service lines are what usually stop a drop. Most roll-off trucks need roughly 60 feet of straight approach and about 23 feet of overhead clearance. Point them out when you book, and park cars off the street on delivery day.
Do you need a permit for a dumpster in Asheville?
Not on private property. If it sits on your driveway, yard or parking pad, no permit is needed.
If it has to go on a city street or sidewalk, the City of Asheville requires a Right-of-Way Encroachment Permit before delivery. Permits are handled through the city’s permit office at 161 S. Charlotte St. Outside city limits, check with Buncombe County or NCDOT for state roads. Also check your HOA rules before booking, since some limit placement or rental length.
Remodeling or demolishing? Check the asbestos rule first
This one catches people off guard. Buncombe County Air Quality requires a permit before you demolish or remodel any building in the county, no matter how old it is. Materials that crumble by hand, like some old insulation, pipe wrap and ceiling texture, have to be removed by accredited asbestos professionals before demolition.
We can’t take asbestos in a roll-off. If your house was built before the 1980s, get it tested before you start tearing out drywall, flooring or siding.
Where your debris actually goes
Construction and demolition debris from our dumpsters goes to the Buncombe County Landfill at 85 Panther Branch Road in Alexander, which has a dedicated C&D area. The county transfer station on Hominy Creek Road in West Asheville does not take concrete.
The county charges more for loads mixed with too much cardboard or clean wood. That’s why we ask what’s going in, and why a separated load can save you money.
Still Rebuilding After Helene? Dumpsters for Flood and Storm Debris
Since Hurricane Helene hit, much of Western North Carolina is still mid-rebuild. The FEMA-funded debris pickup programs in Buncombe County have ended, so what’s left in a flooded basement or damaged house is now the owner’s job to haul out. Swannanoa, Biltmore Village, the River Arts District and Woodfin along the French Broad took some of the worst flooding. Here’s what matters most on a flood cleanout. Full details are in our Helene debris cleanup guide.
- Move fast on wet materials. Mold can start growing within 24 to 48 hours of water getting in. Soaked drywall, insulation, carpet and pad should come out as soon as you can safely get to them.
- Photograph everything before it goes in the dumpster. Your insurance adjuster or assistance program may want proof of what was damaged. Once it’s hauled, it’s gone.
- Wet debris is heavy. Waterlogged drywall and carpet weigh far more than dry. For a one-floor gut-out, a 15-yard with the higher weight limit is usually safer than a 20.
- Test before you tear out older walls. Many homes in these neighborhoods predate the 1980s. The county asbestos permit rule applies to storm repairs too.
- Keep mud and silt out. Dirt and river sediment get heavy fast and can push you over the weight limit.
If you’re a contractor running several Helene jobs at once, ask about swap-outs. We pull the full box and drop an empty one in the same trip, so your crew doesn’t sit idle.
What Can You Put in a Dumpster?
Most household and construction debris is fine. Liquids, chemicals and anything with refrigerant or a battery stays out.
Good to go:
- Furniture, clutter, boxes and household junk
- Drywall, lumber, trim, cabinets and countertops
- Carpet, pad, vinyl, laminate and hardwood flooring
- Roofing shingles and underlayment
- Siding, decking and fencing
- Concrete, brick and block, but in a separate clean load
- Dried-out latex paint cans with the lids off
Keep it out:
- Asbestos, or anything you suspect has it
- Liquid paint, stain, thinner and solvents
- Motor oil, gas, propane tanks and other fuels
- Car and lead-acid batteries
- Refrigerators, freezers and AC units that still hold refrigerant
- TVs, computers and monitors (North Carolina bans these from landfills)
- Medical waste and sharps
Ask first: mattresses, tires, yard waste and large appliances. Some are fine for an added fee, and some need a different drop-off. Buncombe County runs household hazardous waste collection for the chemicals, and we will point you to it.
Dumpster Rental in Asheville, NC: What to Know Through the Year
Renting a dumpster here isn’t the same in April as it is in August. Weather, remodel season and the mountains all play a part.
Most dumpster jobs here follow the calendar as much as the project. Here’s what changes through the year, and what it means for your rental.
| Season | What we see | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Spring (Mar to May) | Remodels, roof replacements and spring cleanouts all start at once | Book a few days ahead; schedules fill fast |
| Summer (Jun to Aug) | Afternoon thunderstorms most days in July and August | Tarp the box; wet drywall and carpet get weighed wet |
| Fall (Sep to Nov) | Pre-winter projects, move-outs, leaf and limb cleanup on wooded lots | Ask first about yard waste, which may need its own load |
| Winter (Dec to Feb) | Fewer jobs, the occasional ice storm, and freeze-thaw on steep drives | Pick a flat, paved spot; icy grades can delay a drop |
Is a dumpster cheaper than hauling it yourself?
For more than one pickup load, usually yes. Hauling it yourself means several round trips to the Buncombe County Landfill in Alexander or the transfer station on Hominy Creek Road, a disposal fee each time, fuel, a borrowed truck, and a lost weekend. The transfer station also won’t take concrete. A roll-off sits in your driveway for 7 days and leaves in one trip.
What does a good Asheville dumpster company do?
- Gives you one all-in price with the tons included, before you book
- Asks about your driveway: grade, clay, trees and lines
- Puts boards under the rails
- Tells you straight what can’t go in, including asbestos
- Sends the landfill scale ticket if you go over the weight
