What size dumpster do I need?

Most home projects need a 15-yard. Roofs and heavy debris take a 10-yard, whole-house cleanouts a 20-yard, and new construction a 30-yard. See the size guide.

Can I get a dumpster the same day?

Usually. Call before noon and we can typically drop it that afternoon anywhere in Asheville. See same-day dumpster rental.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Asheville?

Not on private property. A dumpster on a city street or sidewalk needs a City of Asheville Right-of-Way Encroachment Permit before delivery. Outside city limits, check with your town or NCDOT.

Can a dumpster go on a steep driveway?

Often, yes. Send a photo when you book. The truck needs roughly 60 feet of straight approach and about 23 feet of overhead clearance.

Will the dumpster damage my driveway?

We lay boards under the rails on every drop. Pavement or gravel protects your property best; soft clay and grass can rut after rain.

How long can I keep the dumpster?

Seven days are included. Extra days are billed at a flat daily rate.

What happens if I go over the weight limit?

You pay a per-ton overage based on the landfill scale ticket, usually $75 to $100 a ton in Asheville.

What can’t go in a dumpster?

Asbestos, liquid paint and solvents, fuels and propane tanks, car batteries, appliances that still hold refrigerant, TVs and computers, and medical waste. Ask first about mattresses, tires, yard waste and large appliances.

Can I put concrete or dirt in a dumpster?

Yes, in a 10-yard filled only partway and kept separate from trash, so it can be recycled at the county landfill.

Do I need an asbestos permit to remodel in Buncombe County?

Buncombe County Air Quality requires a permit before demolishing or remodeling any building in the county. Asbestos can’t go in a roll-off.

Can I throw away flood-damaged drywall from Helene?

Yes. Wet drywall, insulation, carpet and flooring can all go in. See Helene debris removal.

Where does the debris go?

Construction and demolition debris goes to the Buncombe County Landfill at 85 Panther Branch Road in Alexander.

What areas do you serve?

Asheville and nearby neighborhoods within about 15 km of downtown, including Woodfin, Weaverville, Swannanoa, Arden, Candler and Leicester. See service areas.

How do I avoid dumpster rental scams?

Be wary of Facebook Marketplace ads with rock-bottom prices and payment only by Cash App, Venmo or Zelle. Book with a company that has a working local phone number and takes cards.

Should I rent a 20-yard or 30-yard dumpster for a large project?

A 20-yard holds about 6 pickup loads and fits most whole-house cleanouts and large remodels. A 30-yard holds about 9 loads and suits new construction, additions or estate cleanouts with lots of furniture. If your debris is heavy (shingles, concrete, dirt), go by the weight allowance, not the box size. Compare sizes in our dumpster size guide.

Should I rent a dumpster or hire junk removal after moving?

For a few bulky items like a couch or fridge, junk removal is easier because the crew does the lifting. For a garage, basement or several rooms of junk, a dumpster is usually cheaper. A 10-yard holds about 3 pickup loads for one flat weekly price.

Where can I get rid of trash and recyclables responsibly in Asheville?

Donate usable furniture, appliances and building materials to the Asheville Habitat ReStore. Take electronics, batteries and hard-to-recycle items to an Asheville GreenWorks Hard 2 Recycle event. Bulk trash and construction debris go to the Buncombe County Landfill in Alexander, where fees are charged by weight.

What size dumpster do I need to empty a storage unit?

Leftovers from a 10×10 storage unit usually fit in a 10 or 15-yard dumpster after you sell or donate the good pieces. Furniture is heavier than it looks, so ask how many tons are included before you book.

Where can I take a trailer load of construction debris in Asheville?

The Buncombe County Landfill at 85 Panther Branch Road in Alexander accepts construction and demolition debris, and fees are charged by weight. If you have more than two or three trailer loads, a roll-off dumpster often costs less than the fees, fuel and time of repeated trips.

How do I find the best dumpster rental deal in Asheville?

Compare all-in quotes, not headline prices. A fair 7-day quote covers delivery, pickup, disposal and the included tons. Ask about the per-ton overage rate, extra-day fees and banned items, since these are where low quotes usually add charges later. See typical Asheville dumpster prices.
